Cleanups planned for Coastweeks

Students build wind turbines

Science students at Clay high school will soon have a way to measure the wind and how much power it can produce. This grant-funded project will provide data on how well turbines produce power in the changeable wind environment near the lake.

Could I get some information on what happened to the boat "Edmund Fitzgerald"?

The Edmund Fitzgerald was a freighter carrying taconite pellets (low-grade iron ore) from Superior, Wisc. to Detroit, Mich. When caught in a severe storm, the ship's two radar systems failed as did the Whitefish Point beacon light. Captain McSorley of the "FITZ" had indicated he was having difficulty and was taking on water. Overcome by large waves and 90 mph winds, the Edmund Fitzgerald sank on November 10, 1975, near Whitefish Point on Lake Superior, killing all 29 passengers aboard. In 1995, the bell of the Edmund Fitzgerald was recovered and restored, and now sits in the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
