This morning, the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment held a hearing on “The Need for Renewed Investment in Clean Water Infrastructure.” The hearing was convened at the direction of Congressman Jim Oberstar who chairs the full Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Todd Ambs, Administrator for Water with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, submitted testimony on behalf of the Council of Great Lakes Governors and its Chair, Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle. In his testimony, (now available on the Council’s website at: http://www.cglg.org/projects/priorities/docs/SRF_testimony_for_Todd_Ambs_January_19_2007.pdf), Mr. Ambs repeated the Governors’ call for Congress to fully fund the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (SRF) program.
Since its inception, the SRF program has been a vital tool in
supporting investment in our nation’s wastewater infrastructure.
Despite the success of the SRF program, it has been repeatedly cut by the
federal government in recent years. These cuts jeopardize the health of
Council of Great
