27th annual Wisconsin Lakes Partnership Convention -- Water in Our Veins: Celebrating Lake Volunteers

April 28 - 30th, 2005 at the KI Convention Center\Regency Suites in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Whether you are a seasoned public official, active conservation leader, or someone with a cherished Wisconsin lake or river vacation destination— the Wisconsin Lakes Convention has something for you. The theme of this year's Lakes Convention is celebrating lake volunteers, providing a special opportunity to recognize the vital role that Wisconsin's volunteers play in protecting our water-rich heritage.  This year’s exciting program includes many exceptional speakers, ranging from political leaders to experts on lake management, science, water law, policy, and education.  Eight sets of concurrent sessions, arranged in topic streams, over the three days of the convention offer a total of 56 different concurrent sessions that you can choose from!

Hear from political and agency leaders.  Convention speakers: Governor Jim Doyle (invited), Wisconsin’s Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager, Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, Representative Scott Gunderson, DNR Secretary Scott Hassett, and others will remind us of the importance of finding and using our voices in the political process.

Updates on shoreland zoning, piers rules, and other water regulations.  Get your questions answered at an open forum on the rules for shoreland zoning, piers, boat lifts, and similar in-water structures, Thursday evening, April 28th.  This session will update you on the current proposals for revising Wisconsin’s Shoreland Zoning Program (NR 115), and changes in regulations for piers and similar structures in public waters (NR 326).  You’ll have more opportunities to learn about these and other administrative rule changes, pending legislative initiatives, and the latest in court decisions by following the Public Policy and Water Law Stream over the three days of the convention.

Enjoy an Evening On Golden PondThe New Auburn High School's Lakeside Theater Group will present the Academy Award-winning play, On Golden Pond, Thursday night at this year's Lakes Convention.  This delightful, often hilarious look at life on a lake is the story of Ethel and Norman Thayer who are returning for their 44th summer at their northern Wisconsin lake home.  Proceeds from this production will benefit youth lake activities throughout the state.  Tickets will cost $10-20 on a sliding scale and will be for sale all day at the Convention on Thursday, April 28th.
