Michigan Clean Water Corps Grant Application Package and Online Survey Now Available!



The Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps) is now accepting applications for volunteer stream monitoring grants. MiCorps is also conducting an online survey of volunteer monitoring programs in Michigan.  Please see below for more information.


Volunteer Stream Monitoring Grant Program


Grants are available to local units of government and nonprofit entities for water quality monitoring in Michigan's wadable streams and rivers. The newly-formed MiCorps program will provide training to grantees to ensure quality data collection. Data produced under the grant program will be used by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) as a screening tool to identify sites requiring more detailed assessments and as supplemental data for DEQ water resources management programs.    


The Volunteer Stream Monitoring Grant Application Package (GAP) and application instructions are available online at http://www.glc.org/micorps/gap05. All applications must also be submitted online via this web site. The GAP contains detailed instructions for developing a proposal, proposal evaluation criteria, and items to include with your application. 


The deadline for submitting grant applications under the FY 2005 Volunteer Stream Monitoring Grant Program is December 1, 2004. 


Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Survey


MiCorps is conducting an online survey of volunteer monitoring programs in MichiganSurvey results will serve as the basis for developing the Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Network. This network will be an integral part of the MiCorps program and will be used to facilitate data reporting and information sharing and will provide a forum for communication and support among volunteer monitoring groups.  Results will also be used to provide MiCorps staff with detailed information on volunteer water quality monitoring programs that are currently working to assess and protect Michigan's inland lakes, Great Lakes, rivers, or streams.  The survey is online at: http://www.glc.org/micorps/survey.


The deadline for completing the online survey is December 1, 2004.

MiCorps was created through an executive order by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm to assist the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality in collecting and sharing water quality data for use in water resources management and protection programs.
