Fact sheets on regional water policy

Fact sheets.The amount of fresh water contained in the Great Lakes could submerge the continental United States beneath nearly 10 feet of water. But is that enough to meet the regionís future needs? To show how and why leaders must act immediately to develop an effective plan, a coalition of citizens' groups has produced a special report, which offers solutions, and calls on Great Lakes leaders in the United States and Canada to take a leadership role by modernizing regional water policy.

The Effects of Great Lakes Contaminants on Human Health

Human health research.

In accordance with the Great Lakes Critical Programs Act of 1990, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) has developed a research program to address human health effects from exposure to contaminants in the Great Lakes. This initial report summarizes existing literature on Great Lakes human health studies related to contaminants. Research conducted by this program is contributing to a basinwide analysis on pollution problems in the Great Lakes.
