Over the years, lots of people have
asked about the economic value of beaches, monitoring and visitors' health.
There are many approaches to addressing economic valuation of the
resource and the visitor experience. Most of us are familiar with
revenue approaches to assessing economic assets, but for non-market assets
concepts such as revenue, profits, return are not a practical approaches.
The following website looks some economic valuation of coastal recreational
resources. It has a good data base and literature review. I
noticed several beach studies that were not cited though. This includes:
Rabinovici et al work on Lake Michigan, Givens and Boehm, Rabinovici
et al., Pendleton et al, Dwight et al. work on the West Coast.
