Re: BEACHNET==> Thank you for all of your hard work

I am glad to see I am not the only one who has problems with the NRDC
reports. Last year I had to argue vehemently with a "scientist" who had
used a spreadsheet program to filter the EPA dataset for maximum daily
values, thereby excluding 2/3 of the data for Ontario Beach, which is
consistently rated a poor in relation to EPA standards, but is being
compared to many beaches that sample weekly at one location at best. The
NRDC analysis also completely ignores the status of a beach, so the fact
that we are closed to swimming on a great deal of the occasions when the
water quality exceeds federal standards is completely lost in their report.
This shoddy analysis of beach operations that passes as "chapter and verse"
to the media needs greater criticism from the front line people, especially
those who are pushing the predictive modeling approach to operations.
