The American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) announces the call for presentations for their 2008 fall conference at the Chicago Mart-Plaza Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, October 15-17.  ASBPA is the nation’s oldest organization promoting science-based policies for the protection of beaches and shores.

 

Presentations are invited on topics related to the ASBPA missions, including:

 

•     Sustainable beaches – structural and non-structural solutions

•     Climate change – lake level and basin processes

•     Managing sediment processes – coastal erosion

•     Shoreline management - funding sources

•     Coastal ocean and weather observation systems 

•     Coastal environment and ecosystems 

•     Coastal water quality

•     Effects of extreme storms and tsunamis on  the coast

•     Coastal Inlets – management, dredging, bypassing

•     International experiences & perspectives on coastal preservation and protection

•     National and local shore and beach policy issues

•     Surfing – Great Lakes and marine beaches

•     Modeling of sediment transport, morphology change and other processes

•     Remote sensing

•     Education and public awareness

 

Prospective presenters are encouraged to submit one-page summaries of their proposed talk via email to Abstracts@asbpa.org by May 9. Summaries should be submitted as a PDF attachment or as a Word document with a maximum file size of 1 MB. Summaries must include full names, affiliations, addresses and e-mail addresses of all authors (underline the primary corresponding author and include phone number). Also provide a brief (50-150 words) biography of the presenter. Poster presentations will be included in the conference.

 

All expenses involved in preparing and presenting papers are the responsibility of the speakers, including travel and lodging. All speakers and moderators are required to pay conference registration fees, irrespective of membership status. Only PowerPoint presentations will be accepted. Submissions will be confirmed within a week of submittal and notification of the presentation status will be by July 1.
