Just a reminder, the Center of Excellence for Great Lakes and Human 
Health is chairing a session on Great Lakes and Human Health at the 2008 
IAGLR Conference. The DEADLINE TO SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT to the Great Lakes 
and Human Health session is FRIDAY, JANUARY 11, 2008!  Please visit 
http://www.iaglr.org/conference/callpapers.php  for information on 
submitting an abstract to the session.

The deadline for abstract submission is *January 11, 2008*.  We welcome 
abstract submissions for both oral and poster presentations.   Please 
note that all abstracts must be submitted via the IAGLR Abstract 
Submission Center, and authors will be notified of the general 
acceptance of their abstract by* January 30, 2008.   *You will have 
until *February 1 *to edit abstracts, and will be notified of the date 
and time of their presentation by mid March.

Session 18. Human health risks associated with recreational activities 
and drinking water quality

With over 600 recreational beaches in the Basin and over 40 million 
Americans and Canadians relying on the waters of the Great Lakes as 
their primary source of drinking water, understanding and predicting 
human health risks associated with exposure or consumption of 
contaminated water requires an integrated multidisciplinary scientific 
approach. Ecosystem forecasting can mediate this problem by enabling 
beach managers, water quality experts, public health policy makers to 
provide the public with accurate predictions of when and where 
waterborne microbial pathogens and toxins could affect human health. 
This session will bring together researchers developing tools to predict 
and reduce human health impacts associated with beach contamination, 
harmful algal blooms, and drinking water quality in the Great Lakes.
