Description:
We seek an outstanding student to join the Water Quality and Environmental Microbiology Laboratory as a funded graduate fellow and PhD student within the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University. The graduate student (PhD) will develop quantitative-PCR methods for the detection of E. coli O157:H7 and H. pylori in water. The student will be a part of a larger research project which aims to develop a unique biosensor-QPCR tool for near real-time determination of contaminant occurrence in drinking water. This project is led by Dr. Evangelyn Alocilja (Department of Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering), Dr. Erin Dreelin (Department of Fisheries and Wildlife), Dr. Joan Rose (Department of Fisheries and Wildlife), and Dr. Stephanie Molloy (Department of Fisheries and Wildlife).


Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in biology or microbiology, or a related science and aptitude and interest in water quality microbiology. Strongest applicants will have high GPA and GRE scores, and some combination of peer-reviewed publications and MS degree or work expereince in area related to water quality microbiology.

This position will start Fall 2006. Application review will continue until a candidate is selected.
