RE: Fw: ice sculptures

Fascinating! Looks a bit like stalagmite formation. I'd suggest that groundwater may be upwelling at spots on the beach and freezing in layers as it exudes.

Richard and Krystalynn -

It doesn't seem to appear in any of the categories we assembled for LakeSuperiorStreams.org. See http://lakesuperiorstreams.org/understanding/ice.html and its link to http://www.crrel.usace.army.mil/ierd/ice_guide/iceguide.htm to the Army Corps.

If someone turns up more information, would you please let us know so we can add it to our website.

Thanks...Rich Axler

I have never been to the beach in the winter time, so I was pretty amused by these ice sculptures along the shoreline. I can't wait to see some shelf-ice.
