The board last week voted to change the name of Great Lakes Recreational
Water Quality Association to Great Lakes Beach Association. Unless there
is a strong objection from the membership, we will assume that the new name
is acceptable. The more generalized and palatable name should help in
public communication of who we are and what we do. It may also reflect a
wider mission, interest in the quality of the entire beach experience,
ecosystem and visitor protection, but some of these components will likely
evolve over time.
On another note, we are taking an inventory of all the local and regional
beach association in the Great Lakes (SE Wisconsin group, Indiana E. coli
Task Force, MEHA, Cuyohoga group, MaComb Co., Traverse Bay group, etc.)
Please send us your name, formal or informal, contact person and geographic
area covered. You can return it through beachnet, I know lots of people
are interested in further networking.
