Possible upcoming beach association meeting

It was the general consensus at the Muskegon first meeting of the Great
Lakes Recreational Water Quality Association that our next conference
should coincide with a regional meeting such as the SOLEC meeting and
should consist of presentation relating to beach water quality.  As most of
you know, the next SOLEC meeting is in the week of  October 14, 2002 in
Cleveland.  Great Lakes National Program Office has the Cleveland
Convention Center reserved from Tuesday, Oct. 15 to Friday, October 18.
They have tentatively offered us a breakout room during that period,
ideally either Tuesday before or Friday after the conference.  We just have
to be out of the designated room by 6 PM and pick up our own tab for
refreshments.  I envision a day's worth of presentations. We would have at
least one or two invited speakers addressing beach issues from a national
perspective, but most of the presentations would be Great Lakes oriented
with the goal of information and problem sharing from a management,
scientific, policy and stakeholder perspective.  I would hope to we could
get presentations on monitoring approaches, management consideration, risk
communication, source tracking, TMDL, rapid testing, modeling, new
techniques, emerging issues, public health and public education.  We would
distribute abstracts before meeting which would act as our record for the
year.  The business part of meeting would be no more than 15-20 minutes.
The main course of business would be to review activities to date and
discussion of future Association direction.

I am asking for initial feedback from the group on this meeting and
feelings on the venue, date and agenda.  Let me know if you have specific
or general suggestions on the ideas outlined above.
