Carolyn Walker from Florida International Univeristy called me and asked me
to distribute this letter to our Beach Association. After talking to her
and reading the letter, I'm not sure what to make of it. Is this
initiative something beach managers would like to participate? What is the
agenda of the organization? How does it interface with local, current state
and federal quidelines? What data do they use? Who are the specialists
that evaluate and certifies the beach? How long is the certification for?
What legal implications does it have? What is the fee. What are Dr.
Leatherman (Dr. Beach) qualification in public health and water quality
assessment? I do not know any of these answers, but I wanted to pass the
letter/solicitation along for internal comments or response. I know
essentially nothing about the program and thus, have researved my opinion
on the subject.
As you may know the listserv is a 'closed' server. Outside parties can
only gain access through permission. I occassionally will require
additional information when it is unclear why someone wants access to the
server. I tend to decline the request if it appears market oriented
without benefit to the Association or will result in spam. The above
request was a tough call, I welcome your guidance on requests of this type.

"Carolyn
Walker"
It was a pleasure speaking with you this morning. I appreciate your
willingness to pass this letter along (attached). I am very interested in
the water quality programs that you are working on. I wish you the best of
luck with finding more of your pollution sources. If there is anything
that you think I may be a help with please feel free to ask.
If you have any questions about the Healthy Beaches Campaign please give me
a call or write me an email. I look forward to helping you promote clean
water and clean sand in the Great Lakes area.
Sincerely,
Carolyn Walker
