Cooperative Institute for Limnology and Ecosystems Research (CILER)
CILER is a partnership between NOAA and the University of Michigan. The Institute was conceived to have a regional Great Lakes focus, and its research themes cover a diverse area of disciplines focused around the overall goal of improving our understanding and management of the Great Lakes through ecosystem-based research.

Council of Great Lakes Governors
Devoted to working cooperatively on public policy issues common to the Great Lakes states.

Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative
The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative is a binational coalition of 131 U.S. and Canadian mayors and local officials working to advance the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River.

Great Lakes Commission
A binational agency that promotes the orderly, integrated and comprehensive development, use and conservation of the water and related natural resources of the Great Lakes basin and St. Lawrence River.

Great Lakes Fishery Commission
The GLFC coordinates programs of research on the Great Lakes and recommends measures which will permit the maximum sustained productivity of Great Lakes fish.

Great Lakes Protection Fund
The Fund seeks projects that lead to tangible improvements in the health of the Great Lakes ecosystem and promote the interdependence of healthy ecological and economic systems.

Great Lakes Radio Consortium
GLRC produces environmentally focused radio features and news featured on more than 100 public radio stations around the Great Lakes region and several national radio programs. The GLRC site uses Real Audio technology to allow users to listen to every feature produced by the GLRC since August 1996.

Great Lakes Science Center
U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
The U.S. Geological Survey's Great Lakes Science Center was founded in 1927 and continues to provide scientific information for the sound management of Great Lakes fish populations and other important natural resources in the basin.

Great Lakes Sea Grant Network
A network of Sea Grant colleges and programs working in partnership with government and the private sector to meet the changing needs of Americans living in the Great Lakes region.

International Association for Great Lakes Research
IAGLR is a scientific organization made up of researchers studying the Laurentian Great Lakes and other large lakes of the world, as well as those with an interest in such research.

International Joint Commission (IJC)
Many rivers and some of the largest lakes in the world lie along, or flow across, the border between the United States and Canada, and the IJC assists governments in finding solutions to problems in these waters.

Northeast-Midwest Institute
The Institute is a policy research center providing staff support to the House and Senate Great Lakes Task Forces. Policy research focuses on invasive species, ecosystem restoration, island conservation, water management, brownfield redevelopment, economic benefits of sediment remediation, energy, and other issues important to the Great Lakes.

The Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Network (EMAN) is made up of linked organizations and individuals involved in ecological monitoring in Canada to better detect, describe, and report on ecosystem changes.

Environment Canada, Our Great Lakes
Part of Environment Canada's national Green Lane initiative, Our Great Lakes is an index of the agency's Great Lakes programs, publications and databases.

Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL)
GLERL's mission is to conduct integrated, interdisciplinary environmental research in support of resource management and environmental services in coastal and estuarine water, with special emphasis on the Great Lakes.

Alliance for the Great Lakes
Formerly the Lake Michigan Federation, the Alliance is a nonprofit, public interest organization focusing on protecting the Great Lakes through a variety of "Positive Change" projects.

American Shore and Beach Preservation Association
The ASBPA was founded in 1926 by individuals who recognized the need for an organized effort to combat erosion, a serious problem in many coastal areas, including the Great Lakes. In 2003 the ASBPA merged with the American Coastal Coalition.

Canadian Environmental Law Association
Uses existing laws to protect the environment and to advocate environmental law reforms.

Chlorine Free Products Association
Based in Illinois, the CFPA is a unique trade association representing companies that are advancing totally chlorine free pulp and paper making, water purification and related processes. The CFPA web site offers a list of their endorsed products, and related health and research news.

Citizens Environment Alliance (CEA) of Southwestern Ontario and Southeastern Michigan
A non-profit, grass-roots, binational, education and research organization committed to an ecosystem approach to environmental planning and management.

Clean Water Action Council
A non-profit, charitable, educational grassroots organization working to preserve and protect clean water in Northeast Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region.

Clean Wisconsin
Clean Wisconsin, an environmental advocacy organization, protects Wisconsin's clean water and air and advocates for clean energy by being an effective voice in the state legislature and by holding elected officials and corporations accountable.

Environmental Defence Canada
Formerly known as the Canadian Environmental Defence Fund, Environmental Defence Canada protects the environment and human health.

Environmental Defense
Environmental Defense is dedicated to protecting the environmental rights of all people, including future generations. Among these rights are clean air, clean water, healthy food and flourishing ecosystems.

Global Rivers Environmental Education Network (GREEN)
Improves education through a global network that promotes watershed sustainability. It is a resource to schools and communities that wish to study their watershed and work to improve their quality of life.

Great Lakes Sport Fishing Council
The council is a confederation of organizations and individuals who share a concern for the present and future of sport fishing, our natural and stocked resources and the ecosystem in which we live.

Great Lakes United
GLU is an international coalition dedicated to preserving and protecting the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence River ecosystem.

Hoosier Environmental Council
Provides indepth research and advocacy on the broad range of Indiana environmental issues.

Indiana Environmental Organizations
Provides a list of environmental organizations in the state.

Indiana Lakes Management Society (ILMS)
ILMS was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in the State of Indiana in 1991 by a group of individuals with a common interest in protecting and saving Indiana lakes for future generations.

Inland Sea Society
Works toward maintaining a Lake Superior Basin with a naturally diverse and heathly ecosystem.

Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA)
Climb aboard the schooner Inland Seas for science field trips and shipboard learning programs. This floating classroom offers hands-on science training and experience in the Great Lakes ecosystem for all ages.

Institute for Local Self-Reliance
The institute is a nonprofit research and educational organization which works with citizen groups, governments and private businesses to provide technical assistance and information on environmentally sound economic development strategies.

Lake Michigan Forum
The Lake Michigan Forum was established as part of the Lake Michigan Lakewide Management Plan (LaMP) as the central vehicle for stakeholder participation in developing and implementing the LaMP. Check here for information about the Lake Michigan LaMP.

A global network of individuals and organizations working to promote the conservation and sustainable management of lakes around the world. Includes a searchable database with information about more than 1,000 individual lakes.

Michigan Entomological Society
Formed by a group of talented amateur and professional entomologists in 1954, to "help promote the science of entomology in all its branches and by all feasible means, and to advance cooperation and good fellowship among persons interested in entomology."

Michigan Environmental Council
A voice for the environment at the state capitol since 1980, MEC is a coalition of 50 environmental and public health organizations with 100,000 individual members.

Michigan Land Use Institute
The Michigan Land Use Institute was founded in 1995 to establish an approach to economic development that strengthens communities, enhances opportunity, and protects the state's unmatched natural resources.

Michigan Loon Preservation Association
A newly formed affiliate of the Michigan Audubon Society, the association's mission is to conserve and enhance the Common Loon population.

Michigan United Conservation Clubs
This statewide organization is devoted to the protection and enhancement of Michigan's natural resources through education and the promotion of quality outdoor recreation.

Midwest Center for Environmental Science and Public Policy
The Midwest Center is committed to achieving sustainable improvements in human health and the environment through objective, unbiased research and education, and through science-based advocacy.

Midwest Environmental Advocates
MEA is a legal and technical resource center for community groups across Wisconsin, Minnesota and Upper Michigan who are working for environmental justice. Founded in 2000, one of MEA's first campaigns is to provide legal support for a multicultural coalition of communities who are impacted by high levels of toxins in the waters and fish of the western Great Lakes.

National Wildlife Federation (NWF), Great Lakes Natural Resource Center
Helps protect the Great Lakes from toxic chemical pollution, water diversions, wetlands loss and other threats.

Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin
A not-for-profit organization providing grants to local conservation groups who are dedicated to enhancing Wisconsin's natural resources.

Nature Conservancy of Canada
For over 40 years, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) has been working to protect Canada’s most threatened natural habitats and the endangered species that call them home.

Northeast-Midwest Institute

Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute
Promotes public understanding of the complex relationships between natural and cultural environments in the Lake Superior basin and assists in developing workable solutions to regional environmental problems.

The Nature Conservancy's Great Lakes Program
Preserves the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life in the region by protecting the lands and water they need to survive. Great Lakes States' Chapters: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council
Celebrating its 25th year in 2004, the Watershed Council works to maintain the environmental integrity and economic and aesthetic values of lakes, streams, wetlands and ground water in Michigan's northern lower peninsula.

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA)
TRCA's mission is to work with their partners to ensure that The Living City is built upon a natural foundation of healthy rivers and shorelines, greenspace and biodiversity, and sustainable communities.

Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition
A grassroots group established to protect and maintain the unique environmental qualities of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan by educating the public and acting as a watchdog to industry and government.

Waukegan Harbor Citizens Advisory Group
