This is a sample demonstration tool using Google mapping technology to visualize various location of interests within the Great Lakes Basin. The tool built upon existing Google mapping technology and current Web Mapping Service (WMS) protocol to display the transportation layers and the Circle Tour route layer.
The purpose of this tool is to allow users to browse and navigate various point of interests location across the basin. The viewer provides a simple navigation (i.e. zoom and pan) along with markers that identifies the interest locations. Users may click onto a location and additional information or links will be provided.
This tool also allows individuals to add/edit locations via a web-based submission form. The submission form will allow authorized users to add locations to a database, where it stores all location points and display them via the viewer. The submission form is capable of storing links and description text of a particular location. Once the locations are added to the database, these points are identified as a marker symbol on the map viewer.
