What's New
Oswego Harbor dredging begins Monday
The Syracuse Post-Standard (9/5)
The long awaited dredging of Oswego Harbor will begin Monday. In recent years, Lake Ontario's lower water levels combined with a buildup of silt and sediments in the harbor have made the port too shallow to accommodate some fully loaded ships.

Recycling Dredged Material in the Great Lakes Region
Great Lakes Commission (9/5)
This web site provides three different portals for getting information about sources of dredged material near you that can be used beneficially: 1) Frequently Asked Questions for general inquiries; 2) a MapFinder for getting detailed information on specific sediment locations around the Great Lakes; and 3) an Advanced Query that allows you to find material closest to you and that suits your needs.

Manistique lobbies for harbor funding

Ashtabula River dredging completed
WCPN Radio (8/27)
The dredging involved pumping 650 thousand cubic yards of sediment from the river and cleaning it because of contamination with PCBs, caused by companies dumping untreated waste into the river years ago when the effects on the environment weren’t fully appreciated.

Great Lakes cargoes continue to be affected by lack of dredging
Dredging News Online (8/15)
The Lake Carriers' Association says the US-Flag Great Lakes fleet moved 11.4 million net tons of cargo on the Great Lakes in June, an increase of about 80,000 tons compared to a year ago. The June float was, however, 220,000 tons below the month’s five-year average.

Harbor dredging completed
The Port Huron Times Herald (8/15)
After a summer of silt, Lexington leaders hope to lure more boaters. Boaters are a big part of the village's economy, he said, and the need to dredge the entrance, coupled with high fuel prices, combined to put a crimp in the summer.
