Support for regional water planning group growing

Planning for water supply on a regional basis has become a hot topic in the past year. The idea would be for areas like Chicago, Cook County and parts of DuPage County, which get Lake Michigan water, to have their own planning area.

Fish DNA can confirm presence, not size or age

Environmental DNA testing involves taking water samples and then filtering it for fragments of DNA, which then are amplified with lab tools so they can be confirmed as species-specific material. What the DNA samples can't reveal is how many fish might be in an area or their size and age.
Toxicity of pile remains undetermined at Burns Harbor, IN site

ArcelorMittal has still not disclosed the toxics in all of the waste to be landfilled in Burns Harbor. The waste has been dumped in piles up to three stories tall on open ground a couple hundred feet from Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore for more than a decade.

Lake Michigan Forum

Lake Michigan Partner Network
Alliance for the Great Lakes
The Lake Michigan Federation coordinates a Partner Network of more than 100 grassroots and regional organizations from around Lake Michigan focused on restoring and maintaining the land and waters that feed into the lake.
