Great Lakes cities release key steps to prevent spread of Asian carp The Grand Rapids Press (2/8) The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative released an outline of key steps that need to be taken to prevent Asian carp from establishing populations.
Project aims to cut sewage dumping Detroit Free Press (2/8) The more than 20 billion gallons of raw and partially treated sewage dumped annually into metro Detroit waterways would be reduced by up to 20% under an ambitious project under state review.
White River sees return of sea lamprey larvae The Grand Rapids Press (2/7) After seven years of being lamprey free, the upper White River is back on the federal list of troubled waters. The upper river from White Cloud downstream to Hesperia Dam is home to 115,000 sea lamprey larvae.
COMMENTARY: Feds' Asian carp plan all wet Detroit Free Press (2/7) Now we have evidence that while closing the canal would cause an economic loss of about $70 million, in the long run it would be a net benefit to the Chicago area by adding transportation jobs.
